The above tool represents how the change in fertility rates i.e. babies per woman affect the economic development of a country. The trend shows that rich countries have experienced a decline in fertility rates as they became rich. In poor countries, as the fertility rate decreases, economic development increases. Also, more births might be needed to achieve a desired number of surviving children when infant mortality rate is high in poor countries.
